Test Prep Ideas for Math

I hope you are all staying safe and warm from all of this winter weather that's been going on. With testing season upon us, life can get a little stressful. We have some great tips to help out. We also have some giveaways so be sure to hop all the way through!

It's great to play a game for test prep. There are so many different games you can play to capture the students' attention and help them review material. Here are a few ideas:

Bingo
Trashketball
Don't Get ZAPPED
Relay/Board Races
Jeopardy
Family Feud

Let's talk about a Jeopardy style game. I play this old school - no fancy computer technology for me.

Teacher Set Up:

1) Grab a set of task cards or questions for your unit of study.
2) You will want a question for each amount. I do 100 - 500 so 5 questions for each category.
3) Set up your amount board like the picture below using your chosen categories and amounts.

Rules to Play:

1) Divide student's up onto teams.
2) Each student needs scrap paper or a small white board.
3) When it is the team's turn, they will choose a category and an amount.
4) That team answers the question. If they get it right, they score the points. I have them erase the amount from the board to help keep track. Remember this is low-tech!
5) If they don't get it right, you can have another team answer for the points.
6) Then the next team goes.
** If you want everyone playing along for each question, you can give points to all who have the correct answer.

I have a great set of cards to use for this game called Pick-A-Card. You receive 90 cards {6 cards to a sheet} with a variety of math questions covering many categories.
