Sometimes you just want a quick game and not something that will take an entire period. Math Flips are just the thing. The kids get to play a game, flip a chip in the air {Yes, that is a big deal in my class!}, and do a few math problems.

How to play:
1) Pair students up and give them one game sheet per pair. Each student will need a recording sheet.
2) They decide who goes first.
3) The first person flips a chip or coin onto the paper. They claim the box {write their initials} where most of the chip landed.
4) The student that flipped then writes down the problem and the box number.
5) They solve the problem and have their partner check it for accuracy. Since I use this as review, I make them correct if it wasn't solved correctly.
6) They record their points - the box number of the problem they solved.
7) Repeat for the next person.
8) Play until both partners have solved 5 problems.
9) You can reward the winner. I use tickets in my class - 5 for the winner and 4 for the other person.

DIY: Feeling adventurous? Create a large grid on poster board with a problem in each square. Have students toss bean bags. I suggest laminating before adding problems so the board is reusable.
